The highlight of the day will be visiting the glorious Trashichoe Dzong, a capital fortress which houses the golden throne for our King.

After breakfast, we will move to the Simtokha Dzong which is our first dzong built by the Zhabdrung in 1629. Then we will move to Takin preservation to see the national anmal of Bhutan. Then our next visit will be at the National Folk Heritage Museum, dedicated to preserving Bhutanese folk arts. This renovated 19th-century building is laid out like a traditional, rural household with three stories of traditional arts, cultural relics, and artifacts. Textile museum display its collection of artifacts to further the understanding of Bhutan’s rich textile traditions and way of life. Next we will visit the Bhutan Post Office to make the customerized stamp out of your own photos. If we falls on Friday, Saturday or Sunday then we will make a quick visit to the farmer’s weekend market.

Today we will drive from Thimphu to Punakha- the ancient capital of Bhutan, which is around 77km and it will take us around 2 hours. We will pass through Dochula Pass where you can visit the 108 chortens built by the present Queen Mother of Bhutan, Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck to commemorate Bhutan’s victory over Indian militants and to liberate the souls of the souls lost.

We will have a pleasant 20 minutes walk across terraced fields through the village of Sopsokha to Chimi Lhakhang (Temple of fertility), a small temple dedicated to one of Bhutan’s favorite saints, the “Divine Madman” Drukpa Kinley. Nearly 500 years ago, this region was the stomping ground of the unconventional monk who taught Buddhist dharma by employing shocking and ribald humor. After lunch we will visit Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten that is built by the third Queen Mother, Ashi Tshering Yangdon Wangchuck. This Chorten is a splendid example of the Bhutanese architecture and art, and is the only one of its kind in the world.

Today after breakfast, we will go to the impressive Punakha dzong that sits at the confluence of the Po (male) and Mo (female) rivers.  Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal built the fortress in 1637and currently serves as the winter home of the Central Monk Body. The monks move from Thimphu to Punakha for winter as the lower elevation creates more temperate climes. After visiting the Dzong we will attend the festival for the rest of the days.

Today we will drive to Paro that will take around 3hr and 30minutes. After reaching to Paro, we will have our lunch in the town and then after lunch we will visit the National Museum which was built in 1649 as the watch tower for the Paro province and was made into Museum in 1974. It houses 4 exhibition rooms of different artifacts. We will also pay a visit to Paro Dzong, also known as Rinpung Dzong, a 15th century massive fortress/monastery that is also the administrative center of the dzongkhag. After that we will check into the Hotel.

Today after a delicious breakfast, you will embark on your hike to Taktsang Monastery, popularly known as Tiger’s Nest, perched on a cliff, overlooking Paro valley. Return trip hike takes approx 5 hours; alternatively, if you don’t wish to hike, you may ride a pony till cafeteria. This is one of the most sacred sites of Bhutan, visited by all Buddhist at least once in their lifetime. The climb is steep, so en-route you may stop for refreshments at cafeteria, located halfway up the trail overlooking ‘Tigers Nest’. Once we reach Tigers Nest, enjoy the beautiful views and waterfall along with a visit to the monastery.
